Woolacombe
Woolacombe has an award winning beach only 10 minutes away from The Fernery, Devon. Voted Number 1 beach in the UK by Tripadvisor (February 2015), Number 4 in Europe, and Number 13 in the World! Woolacombe also holds the ‘England for Excellence Gold Award’ for best family resort and was voted the Best British Beach in the Mail On Sunday. As well as the busy main beach we really love and recommend the secluded rocky coves of Barricane Beach, and Combesgate at low tide. These beaches are quieter, and perfect for families with great rock pools, and streams to dam!
Woolacombe Beach itself lies between Morte Point and Baggy Point. This three-mile long stretch of golden sand is renowned for it’s cleanliness, water quality and facilities with wonderful views out towards Lundy Island. It is also a very popular spot for for walkers, runners and dog owners who can enjoy the views all the way to Putsborough. There is plentiful parking at Marine Drive with amazing panoramic views over the bay. Life guards ensure safe family swimming during the summer and surfers come from all over the country to enjoy the great waves and clean water.
Woolacombe itself is a lively village with great pubs and restaurants. Some of our favourites are the Woolcombe Bay Brasserie, The Boardwalk, The Red Barn, NC@EX34, Bar Electric, Captain Jacks and the world famous Marisco Club (the UK's longest running nightclub!)
Visitors of all ages will find plenty to do away from the beach. There’s a friendly, laid-back atmosphere here which visitors are sure to enjoy. You’ll see why people come back summer after summer, as Woolacombe truly has a magical feel and is somewhere you will never forget. We have been coming since we were children and have returned regularly throughout our lives!
