The South West Coast Path
The South West Coast Path is truly stunning, and runs over the hill behind The Fernery. It can be accessed by walking up the hill and taking the first road turning right in Higher Slade. This will take you up to a footpath on the left which leads to the open fields. Keep walking up the hill, and through gates and across the cattle grids until you get to the mast. From here you will enjoy wonderful views over Ilfracombe. To get onto the South West Coast path just walk towards the sea, but head to the left hand side corner of the fields, and keep going until you get to the gates which lead directly onto the South West Coast Path. From here you can either walk left all the way to Lee Bay, and enjoy a pint and a nice meal at The Grampus in Lee Bay. If you turn right you can walk across the famous Torrs, and down into Ilfracombe, and then head back up the Tarka Trail to The Fernery.
